11th GASSER Reunion Coverage!

We had another great-weather GASSER Reunion!  If you were there, you know how fun it was.  If you couldn't make it this year, you can vicariously experience what you missed by reading this issue of the magazine.  Issue 121 (Summer 2012) is ALL GASSER Reunion!

Thanks to Bob Wenzelburger for the hundreds of great photos of his that give you the feeling of being there.  Dana Ford wrote a wonderful accompanying article on his experiences at the Reunion.  When it comes to the 'Reunion' issue, we only feature cars that were at the event.  Charles Whestone shot photos and reported on a '41 Willys, a '50 Pontiac and a '55 Chevy.

My personal thanks to Kurtis Hicklin for managing the club display.  He had two great volunteer helpers, Will Haibcj amd Caitlyn Allen.

Trophies:  Don Moyer went all out in his creation of the CHAMPION trophy for the event.   Richie Coury created a wheelstanding 'Wheelstand Champion' trophy (and donated $200 in prize money) and Bruce Blackway gave away four of his Gasser Models' cars.

Issue should be in the hands of the US Post Office on Monday, July 30th.   The magazine goes out 'bulk mail' so it can take 2-4 weeks to reach your mailbox.

GASSER REUNION COUNTDOWN!

A week from RIGHT NOW (Saturday morning, June 2nd), the pits and staging lanes at Beaver Springs Dragway will be filled with nostalgia GASSERs, Hot Rods and cruisers.  The weather forecast looks good and we're ready to rock'n race!

We paid tribute to Byron Stack on this year's event shirt.  He was a significant supporter of all things GASSER.  He is missed.  Byron, I wish you were going to be there with us. 

The S&S Racing Team, Eaast Coast Gassers, Western New York Gassers and more will be there.  Join us for a fun weekend of racing as it used to be.

REUNION AWARDS!

Bruce Blackway, owner of GASSER Models and and a new advertiser in the club magazine, has cheerfully donated some of his 1:18 scale resin GASSER models for awards.  In addition to his '40 in the 'garage' case, he's also donating an Anglia, Henry J and a '49 Chevy.  All the models will be on display in the club booth until they are awarded.

The above model will be presented to BEST GASSER in the car show.    See ya there!

GASSER CHAMPION TROPHY!

ANYONE can call a trophy shop and purchase a nice, but run-of-the-mill trophy.  Thanks to Ken McIntyre's original GASSER REUNION trophy creations using car parts, our trophies are WAY beyond anything you can buy over the counter.  That artistic tradition continues in 2012.

Do you know Don Moyer?  Besides being one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, he pilots his REBEL REAPER '41 Willys to record setting wheelstand heights.   At the 2011 Reunion, Don blew up his REBEL REAPER's rear end while doing a giant wheelie. 

After the race, Don volunteered to create this year's GASSER CHAMPION trophy.  Where his vision would take him was anyone's guess.  All I told him was, "Go for it."  He did, and with excellence.

Sad as his broken rear end wheelie was for him, his destroyed parts live once again in the kinetic sculpture pieces of this year's 'exploding' CHAMPIONSHIP trophy. 

The trophy will be on display in the club booth until one of you win it!  

Thanks Don.  You blew me away with your artistic creation.

GASSER REUNION 2012!

We're headed back to Beaver Bob's hangout in Pennsylvania for the 11th Annual GASSER Reunion.  Get your hotel reservations now and avoid the "Where am I going to stay?" worries.  Host Hotel is the Comfort Inn in Selinsgrove, PA.  Ask for the GASSER rate.   Guys are already booking their rooms.  

Friday evening we're once again doing our FREE Hot Dog dinner for both racers and fans.  Ask anyone who was there last year, we had a blast.  More later,

REUNION RACING UNDER SUNNY SKIES!

SUNSHINE! While the weather forecasters predicted 70% chance of rain all weekend long, racing went on under sunny skies for all but 45 minutes (on Sunday).  The GASSER GODS let it rain during the night, which cooled off the days.  All those who stayed away because of the weather forecasts, missed a great GASSER Reunion.

Club Member Sammy Cooper took the long distance award with his 12,000 mile trip from Australia.  His last appearance at the Gasser Reunion was in 2004.  His Aussie slang and sense of humor made him a beloved 'celebrity' once again.

Don Moyer's wheelstand, and first run at the event, shocked even Don.  It was a sky-high, lane-changer.  His AMC powered Willys found more traction than it was used to and rocketed UP!  What a way to start off the 10th Annual GASSER Reunion!

The next issue of the magazine will be ALL-Reunion.  I have 3,000+ photos to review from just one photographer, staffer Bob Wenzelburger, with who knows how many more yet to come in from the gaggle of photogs at the event.

COUNTDOWN!

A week from today, vendors and early bird GASSERs will be pulling into Beaver Springs Dragway!!!!  OK, I could put more ! signs but 4 seems 'almost' enough.  My thanks to Byron at Gasser Madness for some great, take me back, photos that remind me why we love GASSERS.  It was a time that will never come again, but a time we honor with our GASSER Magazine events.  

Makes me sad that those glory years are gone, but happy that we gather together to honor those who gave us our history.
